Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson born to British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby & Chris Watson in Paris, France. When she moved to Oxfordshire around the age of five, Emma enrolled at the Dragon School. At the age of six, Emma knew she would like to be an actor and for many years she studied at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theatre school where she studied singing dancing and acting. When she was 10, Emma had taken part in a variety of Stagecoach productions and plays. The casting process began in 1999 in the production of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the film adaptation of British writer J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was spotted by Emma's Oxford theatre teacher. David Heyman told Emma along together with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe that they had all been through eight consecutive auditions. The release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's first cinematic screen appearance. The film was also the film that was most popular during 2001. Opening weekday and weekend ticket sales were record-breaking. Reviewers praised the film, particularly the younger actors. The well-known British paper The Daily Telegraph called her performance admirable. Emma received the Young Artist Award as the Leading Young Actress for the feature Film. Emma was awarded five times for her role in the movie.
